#ShannyValDiaries : My Carnival Weekend 2017

“Is whole year that we waiting & we anticipating…”

I think Machel Montano summed up my Carnival weekend in his 2016 hit Waiting for the Stage. I waited a whole year for carnival & boy did it come with some hiccups but it was well worth the wait.

This land that I love

#ShannyValDiaries: Bacchanal Band Launch

I can’t believe its been a year already! I am still on high from Road March last April. Every time I remember how amazing my jump was I can’t help but smile & thanks to YouTube  I can watch it over and over again.

#DryLandTouristChronicles: Paradise Found…My Week In The Bahamas (Part 1)

This is one trip I am more than grateful I had the opportunity to go on. It literally happened in less than a month and a half.

I remember a few months ago I was watching some of my favourite Beauty YouTubers vlog  their experience at The Atlantis & thinking how cool it would be to go there. Who knew that a few months later I would be sitting here blogging about my week on Paradise Island.

Tuesday, May 3rd, 2016

The morning of my trip I had to wake up at 5AM because my ride to the airport had school at 8AM. Luckily for me my mom sat with me in the airport until I was ready to go to the departure lounge.

It felt like my flight took forever to board! Once I got on the plane, however, I was more than ready to start my adventure.

The journey to Nassau was smooth & I have to give thanks to Caribbean Airlines for their exceptional service. The only issue I had with my flight was that one particular stewardess was not very friendly especially to the lady sitting beside me. I don’t know if she was having a bad morning or what

The Lynden Pindling Airport was massive! I felt like I was walking FOREVER to the Immigration desk.

Just landed…can you tell how excited I am?!

Now the Bacchanal Start!

It’s Bacchanal in January! Usually I wait until the launch of Bacchanal Friday but since I declared this year my “Carnival Year,” I decided that I wanted to be there from the start. I also, wanted to scope out the costumes seeing that I am interested in playing Pretty Mas this year.

I wasted no time when the early bird tickets were released, I asked a friend to swing by Mas Camp a day before the early bird was originally scheduled to end.

As usual my Friday work day was eventful so I was a bit stressed/tired by the time I went home but I was looking forward to hearing some good soca music & seeing some pretty costumes.

Once I got to the parking lot, I was already in a Merry mood!

On entry to Mas Camp I received so many goodies I didn’t expect to even get. I got a Smirnoff mason jar, a Heineken cup, tiaras & beads.

What A Gyal Love Soca: My I Love Soca Boxing Day 2015 Experience

At the start of December, I had made the decision that I was not going to party at all for the rest of the year, however, I changed my mind when my friend Francine told me she wanted to go to I Love Soca.

This was my second I Love Soca & so my preparation was much better than my last. We actually brought a small igloo this time!

#Shanny-VAL Diaries: Iz A Vagabond (My UWI CARNIVAL Experience)

Carnival in Jamaica has come & gone. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to play pretty mas with Bacchanal Jamaica but luckily I did get to experience UWI Carnival.

Shanny-Val Diaries: I’m In Love With The Cocoa Jouvert

“Carnival is defined as an event where many people gather to celebrate something.”

Jamaica’s Carnival season runs from January to April.

My love affair with  Carnival started when I was younger. I last played mas in Kiddies Carnival when I was in first form in 1997. At that time, there were two bands “Jamaica Carnival” & “Bacchanal Jamaica”. When Jamaica Carnival ended I took a sort of hiatus from soca but as faith would have it almost 10 years later I rekindled my love affair.
I love playing pretty mas but my heart is devoted to the “dutty” ways of Jouvert! I love the colours & the vibes of Jouvert, so it is no surprise that it is my favourite part of the whole Carnival festivities.
This season, I got of to a late start but I know I picked the right event to start with…Sunset Cocoa Jouvert.

Shanny’s Weekend Musings: March 7-9, 2014

My weekends are usually filled with alot of adventures so I decided to blog about my musings. Here is a recap of my weekend trods:

Friday: Bacchanal Opening night at Mas Camp.
I am a socaphile…I ADMIT IT. I love the gyrating and wukking up my body, so it was a no brainer that last weekend I would venture to Mas Camp for the start of the Bacchanal season.
DJ Smoke, DJ Sanjay & DJ Richie Ras played all my favourite soca tunes which kept me feteing all night long.
