It’s officially soca season in Jamaica & I am super excited!!!!
The main reason why I love Carnival is definitely the music!…I LOVE SOCA MUSIC!
So by January I usually know all the songs. This year it was easier to get access to all my music thanks to a few apps & some trusted YouTube Accounts.
People always ask me how I keep up to date with my soca & these are my not so secret weapons.
A soca streaming app!… I died & woke up in Socaphile Heaven!
I discovered this app thanks to 13thStreetPromotions.com! The app is your one stop shop for all things soca with playlist from some of the hottest DJ’s and websites. The app is currently only available for iTunes but I am sure the team is working to have Android users share in the Bacchanal.
I have a ritual…
Every year during Trinidad carnival I only listen to 96.1 WE FM (based in Port of Spain, Trinidad) for the latest soca music. I discovered the station a few years ago on the Tune In app & I have been a fan ever since because I love the personalities.
This year I noticed that the personalities kept talking about the OJO app so after some research (thanks Twitter) I found it & stuck with it for the entire Trinidad Carnival season.
One of my favourite sound system’s is the St. Vincent & the Grenadines duo Team Energy Overload. Thanks to their weekly radio show on Saturdays on Hot 97.1 SVG, I get my soca fix all year around.
Team Energy Overload is the reason why I downloaded the Hot 97.1 FM app.
Check out the show every Saturday from 3 – 4 PM (Atlantic Time) here or via the station’s app.
YouTube is my go to for almost everything so music would be no different. It was music that even lead to me even discovering the platform. My favourite channels for soca music are Julian’s Promo, Road Ready Mix & OJO TTRN.
DJ Private Ryan’s Podcast
I love having the latest soca music while I’m on the go but unable to stream & DJ Private Ryan’s podcast satisfies that need.
I have all of DJ Private Ryan’s latest mixes whenever I need them.
During Carnival Season in Jamaica there is only one local site that you need to know & that is SleekJamaica.com. Sleek Radio features all the best soca DJ’s in the weeks leading up to road march.
My favourite music streaming site is also one of my go to sites for the latest soca.
This is where I am able to access mixes from ALL my favourite soca DJs.
Just writing this post got me even more excited for Carnival. I can’t wait to put on my costume & chip down the road.
Until next fete…
