#ShannyVal: Carnival in Jamaica (Beach Jouvert)

I know Jamaica Carnival ended more than a month ago but I had so much work on my plate, I didn’t have the time to really sit down & do my experience justice in a blog post. Finally, my work load has eased & I am able to share the joy that was my Carnival Week!

Bacchanal Beach Jouvert was not on my list of events at all because I usually only attend one jouvert per Carnival Season & I had already decided to go to A.M.Bush. Life had other plans for me because I  entered an Instagram contest being hosted by Pure Country for 2 tickets to a breakfast party in Ocho Rios.  Unfortunately, I didn’t win those tickets but was awarded the Beach Jouvert tickets.

It was my first time going to the event & also seeing the Queen of Bacchanal Destra live.

We left home for James Bond Beach around 4:30 PM & thanks to the new Ocho Rios leg of  Highway 2000 we were at James Bond Beach by about 6 PM (please note we were not even driving fast!). When we got to the venue I was a bit annoyed with the parking situation & so if ever I am to attend the event again, I am definitely opting for a shuttle service.

The venue was gorgeous. It was my first time at James Bond Beach (I missed ALL my  previous opportunities to go there) & I was in awe of the beauty. My island truly has some beautiful gems.

By the time we got to the party, we missed much of the paint action 😦 but the vibe  was still just right. We got drinks & then found a spot close to the stage. After listening to a few hits from the DJ, it was time for the main event.

I would go to ANY Destra show ANYWHERE! She is indeed a true performer & every bit deserving of the title Queen of Bacchanal! She belted out hit after hit, did a phenomenal rendition of Alicia’s Keys “Noone” & her own version of Rihanna’s “Work.” I was so mesmerized by her performance, I totally forgot I was vlogging.

Destra paused her set & introduced Farmer Nappy who gave a spectacular performance! I love his songs & his interaction with the audience was on par.

After the stage performances, we relocated closer to a bar & enjoyed the musical stylings of Nuphoric out of Trinidad & Tobago & DJ Smoke.

It was a great event & I had fun. Next time I will try to get there much earlier & use a shuttle service. I definitely recommend at least one Beach Jouvert experience in your life… you will love it!

As always I had to put together a little vlog…

Until next fete!
