About a month ago, my friend in SXM posted a flyer for an event in Anguilla which was going to be headlined by Mr. Soca himself Machel Montano! Immediately my heart sank, because I knew I wouldn’t have the time or money to sort out making the trip to Anguilla.
You see I have never had the opportunity to see the King of Soca perform live. I have seen him at Jouvert in Jamaica but never ever seen him live & direct.
As faith would have it the genius promoters of Appleton Dream Weekend billed Mr. Double M as the headliner for their Dream Jouvert!
I hounded my friend for weeks leading up to the event. Eventually he said yes & I was beyond ecstatic!
On Sunday, August 9 we journeyed from Portmore to Negril with 2 stops in between (one in Mandeville & the other in Savanna-La-Mar).

We got to Negril at about 8 PM after stopping for food in Savanna-La-Mar. We bought our tickets found a parking spot & waited for the gates to open.

This was the first time in my life that I had ever been early to a party I was not helping to plan. Nonetheless by the time we bought our tickets & found a parking spot, we only had a little wait before the gates were opened.
First stop once we were inside was the bar. Then we secured our spot near the stage.

The early juggling was provided by DJ Lantern MD (one of our best soca DJs here). He took it from early soca hits before DJ Crazy Neil (from Mobay) & DJ Nicco (from FAME FM) took over hosting duties.

Paint…Powder & Pure Soca…It was pure excitement after that!!!!

By the time Machel hit the stage the vibe in the party was crazy. Energy level was up & he had the crowd eating out of the palm of his hands with hit after hit. Of course DJ Assasin Singh from Artiste Team did his thing on the turntables.
Of course he brought Ms. Angela Hunte on stage for his performance of their runaway hit “Party Done.” He then brought Dancehall Star/Dancer Ding Dong & his Ravers Clavers crew on stage for a dancehall interlude. He then brought cricket superstar Chris Gayle on stage to join the dance party.
I wish I could replay the entire experience again!!!!!!

This was my first ever Dream Weekend event & I am glad I decided to go because it was worth every dollar spent. As usual my only complaint was that there was not enough Bajan soca….
